I may not have to buy any more snow peas this summer, after this morning’s harvest of 630g from my aquaponics setup. Cherry tomatoes will be next on the list as the plants are now in flower.
I’ve silver perch as the main fish in my aquaponics setup. I’ve 4 x 1000L tanks hooked up to a an external filter that’s gravity-fed and the water is pumped through UV prior to entering the four tanks that are in parallel. Some water is directed through the plants using the NFT. I went with silver perch because they tolerate water temperatures of 2°C to 35°C, not wanting to go through the trouble of having to have source and grow two crops/yr (barramundi in summer and rainbow trout in winter) and risk new tank syndrome, risk water temperature fluctuations early in the season that’d stress the fish (e.g. stocking barra too early and having a cold snap reduce their immunity, making them prone to disease), etc. I prefer the lower maintenance too with a slower growing species.
That’s great! What fish species do you grow in your aquaphonics? I’ve heard that snow pea leaves can be feed for Jade perch.
