Hello Dr, I have a betta who has a large growth on his left side on the base of his tail and I would like to get your advice on how I should treat him before it gets out of control.

Tumours at tail base difficult to resect. Have him checked by your local vet.

Hi Dr. My tetra has fin rot. I’ve been using API Pimafix, but it hasn’t seemed to do much good. I want to switch him to API Melafix, but I was wondering if I need to do a 100% water change first in case of overdosing or mixing of treatments. Any advice? Thank you!

You’re best contacting the manufacturers. I don’t use those products in my practice.

Are peas bad for bettas. I can only find sources from hobbyists saying they are good. But some have started insisting that it is dangerous to give a betta peas. Is this true?

Bettas are carnivorous and peas do not seem to fit their dietary profile. I wonder if the feeding of peas has come about as an extension of the commonly talked about prophylaxis for buoyancy disorders in goldfish? Even in goldfish, I’m not entirely certain that it works to prevent buoyancy disorders.
