One of my colleagues is writing a stern letter to the retail outlet to withdraw such products from their shelves.
Fish bowls without filtration are no longer acceptable for keeping fish.
What’s more is that the package says that this small 4L bowl is suitable for two, 4-6cm goldfish! Really?

There are so many products like that around, it’s ridiculous. I’ve seen pet store staff selling bowls to customers and I just want to scream at them – they have absolutely no clue that they’re selling, as you said, a death trap!

While I agree that it is not acceptable to have goldfish in a tank this size, and as a retailer wouild never allow it to hapen, I would be happy to have a Beta (Siemese Fighter) in that size tank. This appears to be acceptable around the world and I believe that most retailers would only use that tank for that purpose. Bob Croucher

I dont even think that a 4 litre container is suitable for a Betta dcespite the small volume that most shops keep Bettas in such a tank. I see bowls that size being sold for goldfish in Melbourne shops. Yesterday I was at my local LFS when a customer bought in such a container containing two reasonable size goldfish which were in very bad shape and she was upset when the staff member told her that her fish were dying because of her lack of care. She accepted it in the end and gave up the fish for euthanasia andf then asked to buy two new goldfish for her death chamber. Fortunately she was refused.
