I hope to meet you this Saturday and discuss with you problems I am having with Betta macrostoma.
It is one of the highly endangered fish in the world today and needs to be protected.

Unfortunately I was unable to arrange an appointment through Boronia Aquarium for your visit on Saturday. Would look forward to meeting and chatting with you on some other occasion

I was just thinking about their scientific name. The “macrostoma” must allude to their gigantic mouths.

Sorry but my male Betta macrostoma just died early this afternoon. Probably nothing you could have done if you had been able to see him.
Most of the Melbourne Betta hobbyists have had their male macrostomas die on them – perhaps they are too weak to carry the eggs and fry for 28 days.
Any thoughts?

I’m sorry to hear that. It would have been good to take samples for lab testing so we can know for sure the reason he died. Being this rare, I wonder if hormonal induction to stimulate breeding might be helpful to bring this species back. The normal method of administration is via injections, but maybe an oral delivery method may be just as effective in these.
